Project Overview:
Sun God Festival is a student-curated, daylong music and arts festival at UC San Diego. Named as one of Live Nation’s "Top 5 College Concerts That Should Be Actual Festivals", Sun God is the largest campus-wide event and brings in 20,000+ attendees and has a million dollar operating budget. Sun God Festival 2020 would have occurred on April 26, but due to COVID-19, the event was cancelled. Past acts include Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Jhené Aiko, Khalid, and My Chemical Romance. All artist photos are used to display concept only.

My Contributions:
I had the opportunity to create the visual identity of UC San Diego’s Sun God Festival. Throughout this project I worked closely with the A.S. Concerts and Events team as well as A.S. Graphic Studio’s webmaster, Andrew Zhen. I designed all of the digital and print promo materials as well as the website.

Direction:
I have always had a fascination with physical manipulations of text. Whether it's looking at text through rippled water or seeing how type deforms when reflected off a glossy surface, warped text has been a major inspiration in my design. When I was tasked with creating a visual identity for this year's festival, I was given a few key phrases to focus on: soft, embodying nature, bright, and warm. I spun this idea around to both encompass a feeling of bubbliness as well as literally using bubbles in the design. With theses bubbles I could convey a warm summery feeling while bringing interest to the typography through warping its structure. I also felt that these feelings of warmth and happiness, all while being paired with a music festival, make me want to move. I matched this feeling with my design direction to try to incorporate both the feeling of motion and actual motion into my designs.
